36″Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38This is the great and first commandment. 39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
The Great Commandment is probably one of the best known statements of Jesus. In these verses Jesus affirms what is the most important commitment of a Christ-follower. Livin’ Large means we love God and we love our neighbor. Jesus identifies our “neighbor” in Matthew 5 to include our enemies; in Luke 10 to include anyone we see in need and in John 13 He clarifies the focus of our love by emphasizing our love for fellow disciples. We can’t escape it; following Christ means we live a life of love! The amazing thing is that this is possible because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the indwelling Holy Spirit. We have the love of God in us. We can draw upon God’s love for us as we express love to others. This is Livin’ Large! The supernatural life Christ has called us to is a life of love. A life filled with His love. We follow Christ and demonstrate the reality of our new life when we live in love.
Read over Matthew 22:36-40. If you have not done so, commit it to memory. Ask God to overflow your life with His love. Surrender to His command to love God and love your neighbor. Proactively pray for others and ask God to use you to be a blessing by showing forth His love. Think of ways you can demonstrate love and look for opportunities to let the light of Christ shine through your life. Living in love is Livin’ Large!
