How to Share the Gospel

How to share the gospel

1 Corinthians 2:1-5
And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Successful evangelism is simply taking the initiative to share Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results with God
1.    Take the initiative
“And I, when I came to you, brothers…”
Mark 16:15
Mt. 28:18-20
2 Corinthians 5:17-21
We are called to join Christ in His mission to reconcile the world
We have been commanded to “go”

  • By prayer
  • By friendship
  • By serving
  • By conversation
  • By intentional evangelism

Develop redemptive relationships: move from friendship to sharing the gospel; move from sharing the gospel to friendship

2.    To share Christ
“…did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”
Acts 4:12
Acts 16:32

  • Talk about Jesus
  • Explain the gospel
  • Dialogue about Jesus not politics, theology or your pet sin
  • Keep the good news, good news!

3.    In the power of the Holy Spirit
“3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power”
1 Thessalonians 1:5
Colossians 1:28-29

  • Live a Spirit filled life
  • Ask for the help of the Holy Spirit
  • Take the high ground

4.    Leave the results with God
“5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 3:4-6
John 15:7-8
1 Thessalonians 2:1-12

  • Be persuasive but don’t be controlling, judgmental or abusive
  • Remember you are sharing good news
  • Challenge for a decision but leave room for people to respond to God
  • Trust God with the fruit
