1 John 1:5-7
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet live in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we live in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
God is light and in Him there is no darkness. This metaphor is a popular one with the Biblical authors. Because God is light, when we live in Him, we live in the light. This is God’s will for every Christian. God has enlightened us through our relationship with Jesus Christ. His light is in us. We are light in the Lord in Him. To live in union with Christ, following Christ, this is living in the light. When we live in the light we have fellowship with one another and we have the assurance that the blood of Jesus is continually cleansing us from all sin. To claim to be in the light but to actually be in the darkness is to lie and not practice the truth. God is light, therefore when we seek Him and seek to live in His presence and follow His commands; then we live in the light. That’s Livin’ Large!
Meditate on the truth that God is light. What comes to your mind? What attributes of God reinforce that He is light? Take a moment and praise God for who He is and how He has revealed Himself to you. Because God is light, living in the light means we live in the presence and influence of God. What does that look like for you? How can you seek God, live authentically before Him and obey Him in your circumstances today? Commit yourself before the Lord to live in His presence and follow His will. Ask God to shine His light in you and through you to others.
