Praying to follow Jesus
Matthew 9:35-38
³⁵ Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. ³⁶ When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. ³⁷ Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. ³⁸ Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvestfield.”
This passage is snapshot in a day in the life of Jesus. He spent His time teaching in the synagogues, proclaiming the gospel, and healing the sick. He saw people in their spiritual need and He felt compassion for them. Jesus called His disciples together and declared that the harvest was plentiful but the workers were few. He then commanded that His followers ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into the harvest field.
Today, every believer and every church is charged with the same commission of Jesus. As followers of Christ we are called to serve people with compassion, to proclaim the gospel, to make disciples and to bring healing into people’s lives. Like the first disciples, we are to ask the Lord of the harvest to send out from our congregations, workers into the harvest field.
Prayer

1. Thank Jesus for your salvation and tell Him of your availability today to be a servant and worker; ask Him to use you to bring His compassion to others
2. Pray for your Church to see the people around them, to feel compassion and to reach out in practical ministry to serve people where they are and bring the gospel to them
3. Pray that you are a life-giving person and that your Church is a life-giving community where everyone experiences healing, encouragement, discipleship and the compassion of Jesus
4. Pray for workers to be sent out from your Church to all the nations; surrender to God’s will and be willing to be a worker yourself that is sent out on mission.
