“Livin’ Large is experiencing the new life we have in Christ. It is living the Christian life in the power of the Holy Spirit and it is practicing (Ephesians 4-6) our position (Ephesians 1-3).”
Ephesians 5:1-2
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and live in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
This passage is made up of two commands and an example. The commands are to be imitators of God and to live in love. The example is the sacrifice and offering of Christ. The main command is to live in love. This is where the Apostle Paul uses the Greek verb peripateo, which means to walk, conduct one’s life or live a particular lifestyle. The lifestyle of the Christian is love. When we live in love we are imitators of God. This is love is governed by, measured by and in imitation of the love God demonstrated for us in Christ. He is our perfect example. His love was sacrificial, worshipful and pleasing to God. Our love is to be a reflection of Christ’s love. Our love is to flow from Christ’s love. The way we love others is to be in imitation of how God loves us. We are to literally love with His love. This is the only way we can love. We don’t naturally have God’s love in us. We receive God’s love in salvation and by means of the Holy Spirit we are filled up with God’s love. Infused with His love, we love others. That’s Livin’ Large!
Thank God for His love for you in Christ. Acknowledge that Christ’s sacrifice completely paid for your sins and transformed you into a new person. Ask God to fill you up with His love. Ask God to make you a reflection to others of Christ’s love. Proactively seek opportunities to live in love.
